Anusara ®Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga, based on an uplifting philosophy of looking for the good, as well as 5 Universal Principles of Alignment. In an Anusara class, you can expect a heart opening theme woven through the class, good, solid alignment instructions to help you experience each asana (pose) to your fullest potential, and a teacher trained to look for the good in each and every student and bring this to the fore. Your teacher won’t perform every asana in the front of the class, but for the greatest connection in class, they will be looking at their students, and giving instructions on how to get into the asana. They will give some demonstrations in class, and you can ask for a visual cue anytime you feel you need one.
When I first walked into an Anusara yoga class, it was a revelation to me. I found that poses I thought were beyond my abilities suddenly became achievable. The teacher was friendly and I left feeling better about myself than I had before – I felt that I’d grown about 2 inches! That’s why I wanted to teach this style – there’s a sense of playfulness and brightness to it. Yoga can sometimes take itself too seriously – at YogaBright, there’s no danger of that happening. This doesn’t mean the spiritual aspect of yoga is neglected – it’s woven into the fabric of the sequence and the heart of the class. The alignment principles mean that you are less likely to get injured in a class.
If you want to work hard and have fun in a friendly, supportive environment, then come along and join in the fun.
